SYDNEY BLU - Toronto

With a seemingly endless supply of superlative talent, it is little surprise that Canada have now produced one of the most exciting female producers / djs on the scene in the shape of Ottowa native Sydney Blu. The ethos that constant effort and stubborn belief reaps just rewards has never been more true than with Canada’s first lady of house, and Sydney’s transformation from bedroom obscurity to global recognition has been nothing short of spectacular. Her first track ‘The Steps I Take’ (Live To Tape) was released in 2004 to massive critical acclaim, and was an early indication on how the electro tinged tribal house scene was to influence her sound. Her first compilation YTO 2004 swiftly followed and became one of Canada’s top releases of the year. Sydney was instantly catapulted into the minds of the electronic music world, and seemingly overnight she began guesting at venues that included the legendary Guvernment and Stereo, whilst becoming one of the most in demand djs on the Canadian circuit. Hi Bias was the next label to feel the Blu effect with Sydney releasing her next piece of work on the hugely respected house label to an overwhelming response. After this, followed a number of remixes on several labels including Double Frequency Records, PBR Recordings, Don’t Look Productions & Rawthentic Music among others. This cemented her position as one of the finest female producers in her field. In early 2008, Sydney completed what was to be her biggest track to date and a true career defining piece of work in ‘Give It Up For Me’. Snapped up to the infamous Mau5trap label, the song received the remix treatment from global phenomenon Deadmau5 and the rest as they say is history. ‘Give It Up For Me’ duly rocketed to the 1 spot on Beatport’s Electro chart on 3 on Beatport’s main chart. Staying in the top 10 for over 2 months, it is now one of Beatport’s highest selling songs and has carved Sydney’s name into the minds of producers, promoters and clubbers all over the world. It would be easy to sit back and enjoy the success, but Sydney is never one to sit still for long. She has since remixed Grammy Nominee Bunny Rugs whilst completing another new track ‘To The Beat’ on Saeed Younan’s new label that is forthcoming this summer. There is also the follow up release on Mau5trap that is sure to be one of the 2008’s biggest hits. With 2008 now well underway, Sydney is sitting high on the list of global labels keen to get her sound onto their latest releases, and with a dj’ing schedule that is set to take in gigs in over 36 countries across 5 continents, Sydney Blu is well on her way to becoming one of the finest female artists of her generation.
