DJ TREVOR RISK

Tuesday Night
STACKED

Trevor Risk is a man about town. One may catch him with his telecaster strapped to his back running up Main St., or lugging his dirty milk crates full of records to clubs five nights a week. Trevor was made for music journalism (a precocious nine year old Risk once gave away his Nirvana tapes because he was “over it”) and the industry in general. A close companion once said of him, “Trevor won't tell you why he doesn't like something, he'll tell you why YOU shouldn't like it.” These and other qualities helped land him the job as Music Editor at Ion Magazine.

The past few years at clubs have pushed Trevor into his remix outfit “Saint Valentine's” which is currently eroding the opinions of blogophobes around the information superhighway. Applying his popular music learnings to his sock hop “Ice Cream Social” night at Shine and “Stacked” at Celebrities, to his post-pop band “The Good News” which he shares with fellow Ion columnist Natalie Vermeer, Trevor Risk is about to put a thick rubber stamp down in the world, with a little help applying pressure to it from his friends.

DJ DAN JAMES

If you’ve been around Vancouver Dance Culture in the past 3 years, you must have heard one of DJ Dan James’ sets! One of the newest, youngest, and hottest DJ’s around, this amazing talent has wowed the countless party people and endless music lovers. Starting as a bedroom DJ, his love for phat house beat and dark tribal sounds have taken him on an amazing journey throughout the clubs of the city. First to take notice was Vancouver’s longest running after-hours club 816:the World. After playing a few guests spots there, it was evident to the club that this DJ would add some much needed fresh sound to their lineup. Having played some of the biggest nights at the World (including Vancouver Gay Pride and New Years Eve) he further solidified his place in the dance world. It was only a matter of time before other venues and promoters started to take notice to what this kid was doing.

Vancouver biggest and best dance club Celebrities Night Club was the next to add him to their guest spot lineup during their always packed Saturday POPULAR club night. It was here that the rest of the clubbing world got to hear this up and comer and what he could do on the decks. After a few months as a guest, he got a residency every Thursday night, and continues to guest DJ on Saturday nights.

Having played every major event in town including Gay Pride, Whistler’s Gay Ski week, guests spots at Martini’s monthly T Dances, Cruisey T Boat cruises, Celebrities Night Club, Action Sundays at Shine and his permanent residency at the World, DJ Dan James has set his sights on a very long career as a DJ, and there no telling where his inspiration will take him next!

DJ DI_KOTOMI

DJ Di_Kotomi started his record collection young, buying his first 12' single at the age of 12. Instantly he was hooked. His collection grew as his love for these underground sounds developed. With an ever expanding stack of records, he decided to take the leap and learn to beat match and mix. It is with passion and love of music that led Di_Kotomi to venture out of the living room and into the club.

As a DJ, his passion for jazz, Brazilian rhythms, disco and soulful house can be felt body and soul. With an abundance of diverse influences, Di_Kotomi's sets are always electrifying. While music is constantly evolving, Di_Kotomi strives to entertain and educate by incorporating classic tracks from the history of house music into every set. Aural gratification for all.

Music has always been a large part of Di_Kotomi's life, influencing various aspects, both creative and in general. Not only a DJ, he is also known as a performance/visual artist, beginning in 1998 with a series of Performative Interventions while studying at the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design. These performances have since expanded from the realm of academic art and performance and morphed into a creative entity; an amalgamation of music art and style which is Di_Kotomi.

DJ QUEST

One of Vancouver’s original boys of HOUSE, Quest (aka Chad/Strawberry Girl) has been spinning his shades of dance music for over a decade… When first hearing Royal House’s “Can You Feel It” back in the early 90’s in a dark MTL club he knew that being a DJ was it. This self taught “bedroom mixer”, on his Realistic mixing board and Technics belt drive turntables, somehow managed to figure out the ability to beat match.

With his first gig “Church on Sunday” Graceland 1991) paving the way to dj stardom, Quest has since filled the dancefloors of Vancouver’s club scene. Uplifting house best describes his flavour, but that doesn't stop him from experimenting with a more progressive tribal sound. With a room full of vinyl , Quest has since crossed over to CD mixing which he said he'd never do, making his music more accessible and keeping the vibe alive.
