DJ Ana Paula is currently one of the most refreshing and most influential names on the international House music scene. For over 11 years now this sweetheart of the dance floor has been travelling around Brazil, and the world, reaching out to the public with her grace, her charisma and – of course – her music.
DJ Ana Paula’s musical style is made up of House Music and its variations. A great music lover, Ana admits to not following her own rules many times, inserting songs into her sets that do not belong there but surely become hits on the dance floor anyway. Because of the passion she has had ever since she was a child, all the musical styles that Ana Paula discovered during her career have had a major influence in her – from 90’s House to 70’s Disco. Today, her sets are a real example of the perfect connection between crowd and DJ. Displaying grace and energy, DJ Ana Paula knows how to seamlessly combine great music with a great party. In Canada, her sets were described as “a set of known songs with others that we want to know about”. This combination between House, vocals, and great energy has transformed each of the nights she has presented.
From 1995 until 2005, Ana Paula hosted one of the most popular radio shows in Rio, at Jovem Pan Radio station. It didn’t take long for her to find great success, as well as a legion of fans, on the airwaves. Her Sunday show was extremely popular, with over 1 million listeners per minute. With mainstream audiences becoming increasingly acquainted with her sets, Ana was invited to spin at some of the hippest places in the city: Tiziano, The Bedroom, Skipper and West Side Club where she became resident DJ for five years. She was then introduced to the gay community in 2001 with an appearance at Tea Dance at Bunker, an important reference in electronic music.
Since that time Ana has spun at some of the most important clubs and parties in the country, including E.njoy, The Week, UltraLounge, Josefine, Garagem, Toy Tour, Concorde, Southbeats, Chemical Music Festival, E.joy, E.go, and the very famous X-Demente where she was resident DJ from 2003 to 2007. Spinning in the “Carioca” genre, Ana helped the club become a great success, and developed her musical style while regularly setting fire to the club’s dance floor. In September of 2007 she moved on to become resident DJ at The Week Rio, having already been a member of the “Week family” by spinning at the club’s pool parties, and at TOY and Babylon parties during the 2007 Carnival in Florianópolis.
In early 2007, Ana Paula was invited by DJ Offer Nissim at Forever Tel Aviv presents: The Samba, in Israel. The energetic exchange between the two artists resulted in great sets, incredible vibes and a special acknowledgement in the liner notes of Offer’s next album. After this amazing experience, Ana went back to Latin America, where she played Buenos Aires’ famous clubs Alsina and Pacha, spinning also at great parties like Extravaganza en Blanco y Negro in Mexico City and Kalu in Montevideo. Her international career brought her as well to Vienna’s Gay Pride, Barcelona’s Circuit Festival, Amsterdam’s Rapido Party, Montreal’s Divers/Cité festival, Whistler’s Winter Pride and Toronto’s Prism Events. Affectionately dubbed the “Brazilian bombshell” by Canadians, Ana Paula is wildly popular in Canada.
Ana Paula is also a producer. In 2005 she created a remix especially for the X-Demente carnival: “Swing da Cor” by Daniela Mercury that turned out to be a huge success in the clubs. In 2006, Ana formed House Factory, a partnership with DJ Marcelo Emme, and produced and launched the tracks “Rollercoaster” and “Have a Nice Trippp.” These songs had great success in the clubs and went straight to the turntables of national and international DJs. Two years after her first production, Ana Paula released the song “Canto D’addio” by well known DJ Dr. Kucho for Carnival 2007. “Eye Can See You” by Suzanne Palmer is another one of her remixes, and her latest work as a producer is “Love Me” and “Hook Up” by Maya, on Star 69 Records. Success seems to follow Ana’s career wherever she goes, whenever she plays and whatever she produces.
